Harlequin Ichthyosis: The Rarest Type of Baby Skin Disease
Other names of this disease are ichthyosis congenita,keratosis diffusa fetalis, harlequin ichthyosis, ichthosis fetalis or simply harlequin fetus. It is severe form of congenital skin disease characterized by the thickening of the outer layer of the skin (keratin). Consequently, the skin may look like scales of a snake which is reddish in color with crack almost everywhere making it painful for the baby and susceptible to bacterial infections.
